El Nido Tour (March 2009)

ABOUT EL NIDO PALAWAN:

Smart Travel Asia Magazine has chosen El Nido, Palawan as one of Asia ’s top 10 holiday destinations in its recent 2008 online poll.

Conde Nast Traveler, the largest circulated and most popular travel magazine in the United States voted Palawan as a tourist destination with the Best Beaches Overall in Asia in its October 2007 issue.

El Nido is considered by many- locals and foreign nationals alike as a paradise. It is an ideal tropical beach destination that offers white sand beaches, blue waters, and great snorkeling and scuba diving sites.

It is located in the northernmost tip of mainland Palawan about 430 km southwest of Manila . El Nido Resorts offer activities as diverse as the environment. You can do sunbathing at secret beach, swimming or kayaking at the hidden small and big lagoons, exploring isolated islands, hiking through a tropical forest, picnic on a private beach, and snorkeling or scuba diving with colorful tropical fishes among fringing and submerged coral reefs.

The Bacuit Bay area of El Nido, where the El Nido Resorts are located, has been established by the Philippine government as a Marine Reserve. El Nido's majestic limestone cliffs estimated to be 250 million years old are probably the most interesting and unique feature of the place. They stand guard over clear waters, with 200 species of tropical fishes, more than 100 species of corals, and three species of endangered sea turtles. El Nido's forests are host to more than 100 species of birds, a large number of which are endemic to Palawan. The municipality covers the northernmost tip of mainland Palawan . It is composed of 45 islands and islets, each has its own unique geological formations.

ABOUT UNDERGROUND RIVER:

The Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park is a leading contender for the search for NEW 7 WONDERS OF THE WORLD conducted by the The New7Wonders Foundation. It is located about 50 km north of the city of Puerto Princesa , Palawan , Philippines . It features a limestone karst mountain landscape with an 8.2 kilometers navigable underground river. A distinguishing feature of the river is that it winds through a cave before flowing directly into the South China Sea . It includes major formations of stalactites and stalagmites, and several large chambers. The lower portion of the river is subject to tidal influences. The underground river is reputed to be the world's longest. At the mouth of the cave, a clear lagoon is framed by ancient trees growing right to the water's edge. Monkeys, large monitor lizards, and squirrels find their niche on the beach near the cave.
